About the Transparency Act
The Transparency Act, enacted by the Norwegian government and effective from July 1, 2022, represents a significant stride towards enhancing corporate accountability and ethical standards. Under this Act, large businesses are required to conduct thorough due diligence assessments to stop, prevent, and limit negative consequences on human rights and decent working conditions.
The law also grants everyone, including consumers, the right to inquire about companies' human rights practices in product manufacturing and service delivery. It ensures public access to details on how businesses address human rights and working conditions.
Anyone can request information about how actual and potential consequences for human rights are managed and safeguarded. As a rule, such requests must be answered within three weeks.
About the Modern Slavery Act
The UK's Modern Slavery Act of 2015 is a key step in fighting modern slavery and human trafficking. It makes companies report how they're removing slavery from their operations and supply chains. Companies of a certain size must share their efforts every year, pushing for more ethical business practices.
